UPDATED!!!

Well, it's taken me almost four years to get back to this spot and write an update.

That says something about how the last few years have been....

I just read the original story (see below) I wrote way back when the store opened and I'm overcome with nostalgia. I'm not a sentimental person. Not really, anyway. But reading 'Our Story' brings back lots of memories. So much has happened in three years! Yarn and babies. Friends and customers. Shows and web sites. Inspiration, ideas, gut wrenching laugh sessions and tears. And it goes on....

And here we are today. I often call Unwind, the "little shop that could". It started so small. So very, very small. Just me (with Jill in my belly) in a little 300 square foot shop with a few balls of yarn. Just a few. I used to associate all things Unwind with pregnancy, infancy, and breast feeding, because for the first two years that's what it was all about! And here it is now, 4 years after opening day. My babies are growing up and so is my store!

Based on customer feedback, great staff input, and a lot of lucky accidents--lets' be really honest here, we've come out every fall with an innovative and inspiring line up of projects and classes. We've tried to keep the store fresh and new (y'all know how I like to redecorate!) and full of stuff you love to knit. If it's possible, I get more and more excited with each passing year at all the new fun things running around in my head to share with you all! I really have the greatest job of all time.

Hopefully it won't take four years for an update next time. But if you ever want an update in person...you know where to find me. It's always a pleasure when you stop by!

Lots of love,

Wendy

Oh, and since you asked, here's an updated pic of the kids. New pajamas.

Well--what a year it's been!  Whirlwind doesn't begins to explain it. Here's how it all started...

During my maternity leave with my son, Sacha, my partner and I decided to move back home to Newmarket (where we're both from) to take advantage of 2 full sets of grandparents and the babysitting 'services' that they offered.  Grandparents make having kids so much easier...

Much to my dismay there was no yarn shop in town!!  A town of 75 000 people and no yarn shop?  Something had to be done.  Enter Unwind.  Very quickly I sought out a location, placed orders and opened in September of 2005.  Whew!!  It all happened so fast!  Sacha was settled in a daycare close by our home, the shop was set to open, everything was in place.  The news of our next addition coincided with my first week of business at the shop...Imagine my surprise!  Welcome Jilly!

Things at the store were going really well and when a larger, better location became available, I grabbed it.  Now, firmly settled in the heart of Main St. Newmarket, Unwind is the centre of our yarn community.  My first plan for the store included a cafe but because of space restrictions at the old shop and start up costs, the cafe idea was put on hold.  This summer the cafe will happen.  Fresh squeezed lemonade, homemade popsicles and gourmet wraps will be on the menu.  You MUST come by and check us out if you're in the area.  If you're not, keep checking back for our e-store, coming soon!!

Here's pics of the family--both personal and from the shop.
