Hello again!
With the summer season fast approaching, I thought now would be a good time to remind you of all the light and lovely summer projects available.
Look at this simple, elegant wrap made out of Sprout Organic Cotton….chunky and soft.

Here’s the link to the free pattern…

Wouldn’t it look great in any of these amazing colours?

Here’s a great idea from Mission Falls….100% worsted weight cotton. Perfect for so many patterns…

Probably my best selling new yarn this year is RUCA. It’s made from 100% sugar cane and it’s silky and drapy and light. It’s a DK weight which makes it perfect for fun summer projects. Here are some of the sweet colourways…

Try this Seamless Eyelet Yoke Baby Cardi…. http://carole.barenys.com/EyeletYokeCardigan.html
If you’re looking for a little shimmer this summer…check out Linares. Cotton and viscose, cool and soft.

Try making the Sunday Market Shawl out of a hank…here’s the link to the free pattern. Enjoy!

It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood, beautiful day in the neighbourhood…won’t you be my, won’t you be my…neighbour?
I love this time of year. It’s not too hot and everything is so fresh and….GREEN! And you know how much I love green. The grass is absolutely drenched in bold, beautiful green.
So, I’m not a gardener but last fall my neighbour kindly brought me some daffodil bulbs to plant. I’d had been admiring hers last spring and asked her to just whisper the word ‘daffodil’ to me in the fall so that I would be reminded to plant some. Now, I’m ALL about immediate gratification so the idea of doing hard manual labour, like—bleck—gardening, in the hopes of some sunny growth in April just doesn’t compute.
But I did it (must have taken my vitamin that day) and AM I EVER GLAD I DID! My little daffodils are so inspiring and….yellow. I think I’ll plant tulips this year so I can enjoy them next year. This is a whole new concept for me. I’m maturing, I think.
(That just reminded me of a funny Sacha story--On our way to school today we were passing all the beautiful gardens on Timothy Street and he says, “Mom, you can call them 3-lips if you want!” Awesome.)
Well Unwinders…it’s time for our semi-annual York Region Yarn Crawl (click here for flyer)!
Grab a friend and start your engines…
This Saturday May 9th York Region’s 6 yarn shops will host a yarn crawl during their opening hours. There will be discounts as high as 75% off at all stores. See the flyer for details.
Enjoy yourself ladies and gents!
PS Special shout out to my little pumpkin pie who turns three tomorrow! If anyone knows where I can get a Dora cake—do tell.

(wearing grandma’s glasses makes her look older. Like, maybe seven?)
PPS. I’m getting into this twitter thing! Follow me and my daily tweets from the store…my name on twitter is @yarnbabe (obviously). Let me know you’re there and I’ll follow you too. If you have no idea what I’m talking about go to www.twitter.com and register. Find some folks to follow and give it a few days.

Happy Friday to you Unwinders!
Doesn’t it feel great to have the work week behind you? And the weather tomorrow looks like it will be perfect…sunny with a high of 14°. Nice. Not too hot. I don’t like the heat. I love a good snow storm.

Last chance to sign up for the Needle Felted Rose Class that’s happening next weekend before Mom’s Day.

Spend the day learning how to create petals, leaves and a stem and then joining techniques to finish your beautiful rose bud. Class materials include all roving, felting needles, booklet of instructions, access to video instruction and a bud vase for your special gift that won’t wither. Real flowers wither. Wool flowers, not so much.

So I have a few community announcements to make today…

KNIT-A-SQUARE EVENT
Check out the following link if you’re looking to do some charity knitting this weekends
Some information about KAS: Through Knit a square, South Africa’s Soweto Comfort Club transforms knitted and crocheted 8”x8” squares into warm blankets for orphans who live in terrible poverty, many of them as a result of losing their parents to HIV AIDS. Their goal is 10,000 blankets by the end of 2009….you get the heartbreaking idea.
BID ON THE BOYS!
And here’s an event near and dear to my heart….lots of info on the link provided and a small blurb below. What’s our connection to this event? Karen, one of the event organizers works at the store and has worked tirelessly to put this event together over the past year. Way to go Karen! Well done.
“You are invited to an unforgettable gala evening that starts with a complimentary cocktail reception, silent auction, raffle, white glove serviced dining with wine and ends with a live auction of fantastic prize packages presented by ten of Toronto’s best bachelors. All to benefit Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada. “
And last but not least…UNWIND IS OPEN THIS WEEKEND!
Imagine that. Haha!
See you there!
