Learn the fine art of coil basketry. A technique for making baskets by coiling a material around a core and sewing it together, creating a spiral structure. Coil basketry is known for its flexibility and the ability to create a variety of shapes and designs
In this four hour workshop, Lora Bertolo gives the traditional craft of basket coiling a fashionable twist and shows participants how to do the same. You will learn the fundamentals of coiling, have the opportunity to experiment with various materials and create a two or three dimensional object. Along the way, Lora will discuss many tips to assist you in achieving the results you want and finding your style.

About the Instructor:
Lora Bertolo grew up in Toronto from Italian immigrant parents, her interest in textiles and making started at a young age while watching her mom sew. She has a degree in Fashion Design from TMU. With years of experience ranging from custom wedding dresses, to making knit garments. It was at the start of the pandemic in 2020 when completing a Basket Coiling workshop with Ruth Woods from Craft School Oz that she found her craft, within the textile industry. Basket Coiling supports her values and satisfies her needs as a designer, maker and human.
Using only upcycled textiles in her practice, supports her values of reducing, repurposing and reusing material to reduce waste.
Lora enjoys teaching the craft as she says it is a forgiving craft with endless creative options, the process is therapeutic and the more people that repurpose textiles, the better it is for everyone. You can find her on
